CYAP is Back!
Rested from our break, the CYAP core team is back and hard at work. Catch up with us and get the rundown on what’s coming up:
We are excited to bring you a petition to defund and remove police from Charleston County Schools! We demand that the funds be invested in student and teacher supports such as mental health counselors, student concern specialists, school psychologists, guidance counselors, crisis intervention specialists, and student/parent advocates who are extensively trained in restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and anti-oppressive youth work. The link to that petition can be found here, and in our Instagram bio!
This Saturday, July 11th, begins our four-part series on abolition and transformative justice to be hosted on Zoom. These will be spaces to work through questions like, “How can we work to end the ongoing pandemic of police violence?” and “What can transformative responses to harm look like?” and “What is abolition?” and “How can we keep each other safe?” Each workshop will be hosted from 2:30 - 4:30 pm EST and the registration link can be found here. The workshops are as follows:
July 11th - The Pandemic of Police Violence
July 18th - Transformative Responses to Harm
July 25th - Abolition 101
August 1st - Building Life Affirming Institutions
We will be co-hosting two workshops with We Are Family: A Call for Comprehensive Sex Ed! We believe young people in Charleston deserve comprehensive sex ed now! Join us on Monday, July 13th, and Wednesday, July 15th to learn more about how we can make push for comprehensive sex ed together. Monday's workshop is for young people ages 14-18 and Wednesday's is for folks age 18 and up! Sign up using the link here.
So much going on!! We are back from break and ready to do some virtual organizing work. Keep checking up on us on our social media to see updates on everything happening with CYAP. Wishing you and yours wellness.
